More money is coming to Illinois’ education funding.

Lawmakers passed the state of Illinois’ budget for fiscal year 2026.

It includes a bump in funding for k through 12 institutions…

The Illinois State Board of Education said the new state budget allocates 307 million additional dollars for their need-based program…

The money hasn’t been distributed across the state yet…but we can expect to see central Illinois schools making the list.

State Superintendent of Education Dr. Tony Sanders said Springfield public schools will be seeing an increase in funding.

"They’re one of those districts that are furthest away from being adequately funded, so they will get a large increase in revenue as a result of this. Amazingly the general assembly governor in a very tight fiscal year were available to invest additional resources in public education,” Sanders said.

Sanders said they haven’t yet decided how much money schools in the state will get.

He said funding is meant to increase until all schools in Illinois are adequately funded.

It’s up to schools how they want to spend the money…from teacher salaries to after school programs.

7 million dollars’ worth of that money will be going to alternative schools in the state.

The total amount of funding allocated for ISBE’s program is 8.94 billion dollars, as part of an ongoing program.
