DeKALB – More than a year ago since Illinois became the first state to abolish monetary bail, an upcoming summit will cover the six month period after its implementation and challenge the myths and facts since the law was approved.
The Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice is holding its upcoming media summit on the Pretrial Fairness Act from 9:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. on April 26.
The summit will be exclusive for media members and include discussions from a panel of experts and Illinois officials about the evolution of the law since the elimination of cash bail to debunk myths surrounding its abolishment.
Panelists will include State Senators Celina Villanueva and Robert Peters of Illinois’ 12th and 13th district and State Representative for Illinois’ 85th District Sharone R. Mitchell Jr.
Additional members will include public defenders of local Illinois counties along with researchers, practitioners and court stakeholders involved in criminal justice and domestic violence.
Participants arriving further than 75 miles away are eligible for hotel, travel and per diem coverage and will arrive at 125 S. Clark Street, Suite 1700 in Chicago.
